We are delighted to announce that former Rocks captain Kieron Achara has been awarded an MBE for his services to community sport in the queen’s birthday list.
Kieron ended the final of his three stints with the club in 2019, after a successful career that took him to the US, throughout Europe and playing for both Scotland and Team GB including at the London Olympics in 2012.
Kieron remains involved with the club to this day and we could not be more proud to see him awarded such a deserved honor.
“I have had a great sporting journey, from captaining my country to playing basketball in so many amazing countries, but being recognised for the work I do within the community is definitely the pinnacle of my career.
“I owe a huge amount to so many who have supported me.”
– Achara on recieving the award
Stirling-born Achara, 37, has become an important role model for many young athletes and has been an important mentor to many of Glasgow’s youth via his own activism and our own community outreach programmes over the years.
A huge congratulations from everyone at Glasgow Rocks, Kieron!
