After a convincing 66-90 win over Plymouth Raiders on Friday night in the BBL Trophy Quarter Final, Rocks would sustain that momentum going into their matchup with Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday, taking the 87-92 win away from home.
It would be a slow start for Rocks as they allowed Cheshire to pull away with a 10-2 lead in the early going. Cheshire would extend this lead to 13 points midway through the first but it was brought back to a 10-point lead after Tadas Rinkunas checked into the game and scored 7 points in quick succession to trim the lead back to 34-24.
Rocks would continue to narrow the gap in the second quarter as Rocks played tighter defense and made it harder for Cheshire to convert on the offensive end. As both teams went to the locker room, Rocks trailed by just 4 points at 49-45.
Coming out of the break, Rocks were quick to tie up the game off the back of 4 points from Kieron Achara who would also knock down 4 more points in the quarter. The lead would change hands 5 more times in the quarter as both teams responded to each other’s possessions. As the game headed into the final period, Rocks narrowly trailed 67-65.
The lead would change hands a number of times in the final quarter but with just under 4 minutes to play in the game Rocks were down 5 against the home team. However, on the back of 6 points each from Ali Fraser and Tadas Rinkunas Rocks went on a 12-4 run to take an 85-87 point lead with 1 minute left. Cheshire failed to convert on the other end and were forced to send Rocks to the line where they would ice the game at 92-87.
Rocks attention now turns to this Sunday when they face a traveling Bristol Flyers at 5:00 PM. Tickets for that game can still be bought here.
