Rocks take tough loss at the hands of the Royals

It was a rough start to the BBL Trophy semi-final for Rocks as they fell to the London City Royals 86-66 in the first leg at Crystal Palace.

Despite Kieron Achara opening the scoring, Rocks struggled to get going early in the first as they allowed Royals to push out to an early 10-4 lead. Shooting woes would continue for Rocks throughout the quarter as Royals would continue to push the lead out to 27-13 by the end of the quarter.

Royals would continue to show their dominance in the second as they outscored Rocks 24-15. Depth would be a major factor as Royals’ bench came in and added to the score even further. By the end of the 1st half, Rocks were trailing 45-28.

Rocks made an early surge to try and pull back the lead to 13 in the second half but it would prove a mountain too hard to climb as Royals maintained their form from the first half. When it was all said and done Rocks finished the first leg of the BBL Trophy semi-final with a 20-point deficit going into Sunday’s second leg at the Emirates.

Kieron Achara was Rocks top scorer with 13 points, with Greg Pryor also adding 10 of his own.

Rocks now look ahead to Friday when they travel to Newcastle to take on the Eagles before returning for the second leg of the Trophy semi-final on Sunday. Tickets for Sunday’s game can be purchased now here.
